Shell Oman Marketing Company (SOMC) was established in 1997 with capital of RO 10 million (US$26 million), of which 40 %, in the form of 4 million shares, was floated in July-August 1998. The shares were listed on the parallel market on 15 November 1998. SOMC was set up to buy the operations of Shell Marketing , a subsidiary of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Oman Lubricants Company (OLC), in which the group has a 55 % stake.
Shell Oman Marketing Company SAOG engages in the marketing and distribution of petroleum products, and the blending of lubricants in Oman. It supplies aviation fuel to the aviation industry; and lubricants for commercial, retail, marine, and export businesses. In addition, the company offers various cards for managing fleets. The Company operates a large petroleum fuel storage facility at Mina al Fahal in Muscat, which is equipped to receive and load sea tankers. It also provides fuel storage, handling, distribution and associated services. As of 31st December 2007, SOMC has a network of 124 Shell service stations and operates a network of 52 convenience stores under the brand name of Select throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
