Jordan Telecom was established in 1971 as a government entity under the name Telecommunications Corporation. In 1997, the corporation was privatized and three years later the government sold a 40% stake to France Telecom and Arab Bank in a deal worth over $500 million. In October 2002, the government offered 15% of its shares to the public in a global offering targeting both local and foreign investors, thus decreasing its holdings to 41.5%.
In 2006, Jordan Telecom Group decided to combine its fixed, mobile, internet and content businesses and its wholesale offerings under the umbrella of Jordan Telecom Group. In 2007 Jordan Telecom Group assumed the Orange brand for all its services.
